A Great Dressing

I found this recipe for what was being called “the best dressing in the whole world!” So, naturally, I had to try it!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup nutritional yeast (must be nutritional yeast, other yeasts do not work!)
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup tamari or soy sauce (I used Braggs Amino)
1/3 cup raw apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp crushed garlic (I used 2 large cloves)
1 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

Throw everything in a blender and  blend.

So, how is it?
Delicious! It has a slight asian taste to it, from the Braggs (which tastes very similar to soy sauce), but has a wonderful zip from the apple cider vinegar. The nutritional yeast makes it whip up into a creamier texture. Definitely tasty!

This was my first trial with it for today’s lunch, which was a random concoction of my own :

1/2 cup chick peas
1 cup broccoli slaw
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
some fresh cilantro
all tossed with 2 tablespoons of my new dressing.

So good!  It mixed up really nice, and was light and refreshing though still filling. The whole meal was 345 calories.  The dressing itself is approximately 60 calories per tablespoon.

I think dressing is not only a wonderful basic staple for me, but also will work as a great base for creating variances of it. I might add lemon & tarragon next time… or ginger & orange! So many possibilities!

Tell me!
What’s your go-to healthy dressing?

That sounds great–I’ll have to try it. Right now my default dressing to make is a Dijon mustard vinaigrette.

Homemade–I just usually keep it simple with extra virgin olive oil, vinegar (a little less than I would use for just oil & vinegar), mustard, and a little salt & pepper. Good alone, but works well with other things you might have on hand–a little garlic, or shallot, dried herbs . . .
